Privacy Policy

Last updated 3 October 2026 · www.practicumcounsellingpsychology.online

The short version. This site has no accounts, no sign-up, no forms and no contact form. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics and runs no advertising or tracking. Nothing you type into the search box or select in the filters is sent anywhere — all of it runs in your own browser.

The one thing recorded about your visit is the standard web-server log kept by our host, GitHub. The listings themselves are business contact details that practices publish about themselves, and any practice can have its listing corrected or removed by asking.

1. Who this policy is from

This website — the Practicum Counselling Psychology Directory at www.practicumcounsellingpsychology.online — is operated as a small, independent, non-commercial project by its maintainers ("we", "us", "our"), based in Alberta, Canada. We do not sell anything, charge anything, or accept payment or advertising of any kind.

For anything to do with this policy, your privacy, or a listing, write to counsellingpsychologypracticum@gmail.com. That inbox is monitored by the operator and is the single point of contact for privacy requests.

2. What this policy covers

It covers this website only. It does not cover the practices listed here, their own websites, or any other site you reach by following a link from here. Once you leave, that organisation's privacy policy applies instead of ours.

3. What we do not collect

To be specific, because "we value your privacy" means nothing on its own — this site has:

  • No accounts or logins. There is nothing to sign up for.
  • No forms. No contact form, no enquiry form, no newsletter, no waitlist.
  • No cookies. The site sets none, first-party or third-party.
  • No analytics or measurement. No Google Analytics, no Plausible, no pixels, no heatmaps, no session recording.
  • No advertising, no ad networks, no data brokers. Your visit is not profiled, segmented or sold, because nothing about it is collected in the first place.
  • No browser storage of your activity. Your searches, filter selections and sort order live in your browser's memory for as long as the page is open and are gone when you close the tab.

The whole directory is a single static page plus a data file. Filtering happens on your own device; no search of ours ever leaves it.

4. Server logs kept by our host

The site is published as static files through GitHub Pages. GitHub's own documentation states plainly: "When a GitHub Pages site is visited, the visitor's IP address is logged and stored for security purposes, regardless of whether the visitor has signed into GitHub or not."

Those logs belong to GitHub, not to us. We have no access to them, cannot query them, and do not receive reports derived from them. Their handling is governed by the GitHub General Privacy Statement. GitHub, Inc. is based in the United States, so serving this page involves a transfer of that connection data outside Canada.

5. Requests your browser makes elsewhere

Loading or using this page causes your browser to contact a small number of third parties directly. We receive nothing from these requests, but you should know they happen:

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — the page's two typefaces are fetched from Google, which means your IP address and basic request headers reach Google. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Maps — only if you click a listing's "Map" button. That opens Google Maps in a new tab; from that point you are on Google's site under Google's terms and policy.
  • A practice's own website — only if you click through to it.
  • Your own mail or phone app — the "Email" and phone links hand the address or number to software on your device. Nothing is sent by us, and we never see whether or what you sent.

6. Information about listed practices

Each listing may show: the practice or business name, its business street address, its business phone number, its business email address, its website, and the therapeutic focus areas and formats described on that website. Nothing else.

This information is compiled automatically, roughly once a week, from two public sources: the Overture Maps Foundation's openly licensed places data, and the practice's own publicly accessible website. No one is telephoned, surveyed or asked to submit anything, and no information is bought from a data broker or list vendor. The attribution the data's licences require is displayed on the directory page.

The compilation is imperfect by nature. Email addresses and focus areas are read by pattern-matching a website's public text, so a listing can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Section 9 is how that gets fixed.

7. Why we may publish it

Everything published here is business contact information. Canada's federal privacy statute, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), defines that at section 2(1) as "any information that is used for the purpose of communicating or facilitating communication with an individual in relation to their employment, business or profession such as the individual's name, position name or title, work address, work telephone number, work fax number or work electronic address."

Section 4.01 of PIPEDA then provides: "This Part does not apply to an organization in respect of the business contact information of an individual that the organization collects, uses or discloses solely for the purpose of communicating or facilitating communication with the individual in relation to their employment, business or profession." Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act contains an equivalent exclusion for business contact information (section 4(3)(d)).

That is exactly and only what this directory does: it lets a prospective practicum student find and contact a practice in its professional capacity. Where a listing carries the name of a sole practitioner, we treat it as that individual's business contact information and use it for no other purpose.

We do not rely on that exclusion to avoid accountability. Regardless of whether the statute strictly applies, we hold ourselves to PIPEDA's accuracy principle (Schedule 1, clause 4.6), openness principle (clause 4.8), and challenging-compliance principle (clause 4.10) — which is why this page exists and why the removal process below is unconditional.

8. What we never publish

  • Nothing about clients or patients. No client names, no appointment information, no health information about any person. None of that is ever collected, stored or displayed.
  • Nothing about anyone in a personal capacity — no home addresses, no personal mobile numbers, no personal email accounts, no personal social media.
  • No reviews, ratings, rankings or commentary. Listings are factual contact entries. We publish no opinion about any practice.
  • No practicum-availability status. This directory does not record, infer, confirm or advertise whether any practice is accepting practicum students. An earlier version of the site had such a field; it has been removed from the site, and the weekly rebuild no longer produces it.
  • No visitor profiles. See section 3.

9. Correction and removal

If you are a listed practice — or the individual a listing names — you can have it corrected or taken off entirely. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no charge, ever.

Email counsellingpsychologypracticum@gmail.com with the practice name as it appears on the site, and say whether you want a correction (tell us what is wrong) or complete removal.

  • We acknowledge requests promptly and act within 30 days of receiving one, normally much sooner.
  • A removal is permanent. The directory rebuilds itself automatically each week, so removals are recorded in a suppression list (excluded.json) that both the live page and the rebuild script honour. A removed practice is filtered out immediately and is never re-added by a later refresh.
  • You can also ask us what the site currently holds about your practice; since every field is visible on the listing itself, the answer is simply your listing.
  • If we decline a request — which we expect to be rare — we will tell you why in writing and tell you how to complain.

Please note we can only change this site. If the same details appear on Google Maps, a professional register or another directory, those are separate publishers with their own removal processes, and taking a listing down here has no effect on them.

10. Retention

The published data file is overwritten each time the directory refreshes, so it holds a current snapshot rather than a history. Because the site is built and versioned with Git, earlier snapshots persist in the project's version history; on request, a removal will also be applied so that the practice does not appear in any future build, and we will not republish an archived copy.

Correction and removal correspondence is kept in the contact inbox only as long as needed to act on it and to show that it was acted on.

11. Disclosure and transfers

We do not sell, rent, licence, trade or share information with anyone. We have no marketing partners and no affiliates. The only third parties involved at all are the infrastructure providers named in sections 4 and 5, and we would disclose information only if required by a valid legal obligation.

12. Security

The site is a read-only static page served over HTTPS. It has no database, no login, no user input that reaches a server, and therefore very little to breach. Publishing access is restricted to the project's maintainers. The refresh script needs no third-party API key: it reads openly licensed open data and the practices' own public websites.

13. Children

This site is aimed at graduate students and professionals and is not directed at children. It collects nothing from anyone, children included.

14. Changes

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top changes with it, and any material change will be summarised here. Because the site's history is public, previous versions of this page remain inspectable.

15. Contact and complaints

First, please write to us — counsellingpsychologypracticum@gmail.com. Most things are a five-minute fix.

If you are not satisfied with how we handled a privacy concern, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, for an Alberta matter, to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta. Complaining to a regulator does not require our permission and does not affect how we handle your request.
